And discover that my vehicle has malfunctioned, refusing to start, and I can’t go to class
on the first day of said class.
Sent my instructor an email since he’s more likely to respond to that in the middle of a class.
Now to figure out why this pile of scrap won’t start anymore...
Also, I really hate how Kinja starts posts... it wants to post it at 8am this morning??
Update: I’m an idiot. I shifted to neutral, then back to park. It started right up.

My teacher called in sick, so he’s dropping the entire course a week before it starts.

William Hung that starter... SHE BANG SHE BANG... should start for one or two more trips.

Don’t think it’s the starter, but it’s too early to rule anything out...

Do they have the “miss 3 classes and no credit for you” policy at your school?
![]() 05/22/2018 at 13:17 |

Turn the key, all the lights turn on, go to start, and nothing happens. Step on the brake, still nothing happens. I can hear the fuel pump operating, so that hasn’t died yet.

It’s inconsistent between classes, but most of them go with the “three strikes and you’re out” policy.
The good thing is that it’s only one class per week, so unless I either have no ride (like today) or I am severely ill, there’s very little chance I’m physically going to miss class.

Check to make sure the battery terminals are tight.
![]() 05/22/2018 at 13:20 |

Already scrubbed them clean and ensured they were on nice and tight. It’s either the starter having died or some other electrical safety that prevents the car from starting.

Battery might be toast.

I’ll swap the battery once my stepdad tells me which of the batteries he has in his garage are fine and which of them are on death row.
I don’t know why he holds onto dead batteries like he does.

Try jumping it? At this point its probably too late to get to class, but one of these days, you’re going to need a plan B.
Jump it. Uber it. Taxi it. Buddy give you a ride it.

Hit it with my power pack that I use to jump my car with in the winter, but I got no response.
I am working on a plan B as well in the event that my car decides it doesn’t want to function again.

Heh, I had a class I went to 5 times (including exams) in an entire semester (I got a B+). We most definitely did not have any such attendance rules.

could also be loose connection on the battery... if you’re not getting response. Could be that or your juice pack is dead?
![]() 05/22/2018 at 13:46 |

That is the way it should be imo.

Juice pack was charged, so I’m trying to see what else it could be...

Check starter fuses, connections to the starter motor,
Manual or automatic?
Manual put it in gear take off the hand brake and rock it, you might hear a ping of the starter disengaging then try to start.
If auto try turning the crank pulley with a long bar and socket. That should free it.
Let me know if none of that works.

The car started.

Congrats (: worth pricing up a neutral switch just incase, that can give you that problem.

Did a similar thing with my Jaguar lately. I’d been having trouble with the starter relay. One day it wouldn’t start so I assumed the relay was bad and tried to Hotwire it. Imagine my surprise when it started and began rolling forward BECAUSE I HAD LEFT IT IN DRIVE when I parked it. Fortunately only rolled a couple inches until it hit a curb.
